What is involved in the Ultra Low Volume Toilets Subsidy Program?
The program provides home and business owners undergoing renovations with a subsidy to purchase an Ultra Low Volume Toilet.
What are Ultra Low Volume Toilets (ULVTs)?
ULVTs are designed to use 3-6 litres of water per flush, significantly less water than conventional toilets which use as much as 13 litres of water per flush.
Why is this program important?
The program encourages water conservation by replacing inefficient toilets with new toilets that significantly reduce the amount of wastewater discharged. Each household of four that converts is expected to save in excess if 40,000 litres of water per year!
How much is the subsidy for?
Through the Ultra Low Volume Subsidy Program, you will be eligible for reimbursement up to a maximum of $200 for each new purchased low volume toilet. There are two categories of qualification for this program:
$200 Subsidy: Homeowners or business owners who purchase a dual-flush 3 and 6 litre low volume toilet are eligible for a $200 subsidy.
$100 Subsidy: Homeowners or business owners who purchase a single-flush 6 litre or less low volume toilet are eligible for a $100 subsidy.
Will my ULVT work as well as my conventional toilet that uses more litres of water per flush?
Yes. ULVTs use an efficient bowl design and increased flushing velocities for improved performance over older models. Designs have improved in recent years, and good quality ultra low volume flush toilets work as well as, and often better than, older toilets.
How do I apply for the subsidy?
In order to obtain the subsidy, you will be required to bring your old conventional toilet, along with a receipt demonstrating proof of purchase of a qualifying new Ultra Low Volume Toilet, to the Fort St. John Public Works Department located at 10303 Cree Road.
