Council meets regularly on the 2nd
and 4th Monday of every month.
2:00 p.m. Strategic Planning & Finance Committee
5:30 p.m. Regular Council
If the Monday is a Statutory Holiday, then the Council
Meeting will be held on the Tuesday.
The public is welcome to attend any of the Strategic Planning & Finance
Committee and Regular Council Meetings.
If you wish to address Mayor and Council you must make arrangements
to appear as a delegation with the Corporate Administration Department
by contacting Janet Prestley, at (250) 787-8150.
“Delegation” is the term used to define the process
whereby an individual or group appears before City Council to make
a presentation, enter a request for action, register a complaint,
bring Council up to date on a project/idea/concept, or to provide
further information on an issue currently before the Council for
a decision.
Persons wishing to address City Council as a delegation should
contact the Director of Corporate Administration at 787 8150 well
in advance of the preferred meeting date. The earlier the request
is submitted, the better the chance to obtain the preferred meeting
date.
Delegates need to provide the following information to the Corporate
Administration
Department:
· Name(s) of Speakers
· Topic(s) to be discussed
· Identification of any audio-visual equipment needed for
the presentation.
Additionally, Council requires receiving a briefing report on
the topic(s), in advance of the meeting so they are prepared for
the delegation. The briefing package must be received by City Hall
before 12noon the Wednesday prior to the Monday meeting date.
Upon receipt of a request, the Corporate Administration Department
will follow-up with a telephone call advising the delegate of the
time and date the delegation is schedule for.
Delegations are limited to a 10 minute presentation regardless
of the number of people in the delegation, i.e. one person uses
the full 10 minutes, two or more people split up the 10 minutes
however they wish.
Upon completion of the presentation, Council will ask questions
if they feel clarification or additional information is needed.
The Mayor should be addressed as “Your Worship” or “Mayor
Eglinski”; the Councillors should be addressed as “Councillor <name>“.
It is understandable that delegates may be nervous, but remember
that Council is very familiar with this process and is very understanding
of the nervousness and tries to set a comfortable and welcoming
scenario for all. Council is very sympathetic, wants to hear
delegations, and encourages participation. So, remember Council
wants you to
come forward and be heard; so ‘speak up because you are important’ and ‘you
do make a difference’.
