Fort St. John is the Oil & Gas Capital of B.C., and
the primary service centre in Northeastern B.C.
Our economy is diversified with the largest Agriculture
area in the Province. There is a major softwood forest industry,
with a pulp mill, a dimension lumber mill and a new $200 Million Oriented Strand Board
Plant opened in 2005.
"A national study released Tuesday by the Bank of Montreal Financial Group listed Fort St. John as the city with the most small businesses per capita in its population class." "The city's result, says Bank of Montreal economist Earl Sweet, can be attributed largely to its role as a regional service centre for the oil and gas industry."
Fort St. John is the retail shopping centre of choice for
the 60,000 residents of the Northeast. Many major national
retailers are aggressively expanding their presence here,
and the city is making entrepreneurs and investors aware
of many other “unfilled opportunities.” We enjoy
a full complement of indoor recreational facilities, 3 golf
courses within a 10 mile radius, and one of only two Olympic
sized speed-skating ovals in B.C. With year 'round outdoor
activities including hunting, fishing, camping and miles
of snowmobile powder in easy driving distance, Fort St. John
offers it all! We also are the gateway to the magnificent
Northern Rockies Wilderness - the “Serengeti of North
America”.
The local culture of excellence has produced Provincial,
National and World Champions, in sports and culture.
