Fort St. John features excellent year-round sports facilities that provide venues to the very active sports community. From hockey, to soccer, to martial arts, there are sports to suit a wide variety of interests. There is also the opportunity to check out many sports on a provincial or national level as Fort St. John has played host to several large sporting events, such as the Northern BC Winter Games, Canadian Junior Speed Skating Championships, and the Provincials for hockey, volleyball, and curling to name a few.
The Fort St. John Sports Council was launched in June 2003 and is an advocate for sport and recreation development in the community.
Along with the Formal Gardens and acres of green space, several of Fort St. John’s major recreation facilities are located in Centennial Park, including:

Fort St. John Rotary Spray Park
Speed Skating Oval
Fort St. John North Peace Museum
Fish Creek Community Forest is an excellent place to go for a walk or bike ride and enjoy nature. There are three trails of varying lengths to suit different abilities. Access to the trails is just off of 100 Street, behind Northern Lights College.
We also have a lively arts scene in the Energetic City . The North Peace Cultural Centre is home to a 400 seat theatre that offers numerous theatrical performances, musical events, and travelling shows throughout the year; the Fort St. John Public Library; the ArtSpace, which offers courses and workshops to children and adults; and Peace Gallery North.
The Fort St. John Arts Council, made up of local arts-related groups, organizes many events every year and facilitates the advancement of the arts in Fort St. John.
The Great Canadian Welding Competition began in 2004, and is a showcase of industrial arts that is very unique to the Fort St. John area.
For historians, the Fort St. John - North Peace Museum will take you back in time to explorers and fur traders, the pioneer days, the building of the Alaska Highway, and the discovery of oil and gas.
