About Your Water Meter
How To Conserve Water

When will the meters be installed?
The meters will be installed on an area by area basis between August and early Spring, 2007. You will receive notification when installers are in your area.

Who is installing the meters?
Fort St. John has contracted Neptune Technology Group to supply and install the meters. Neptune is the most experienced water meter installation company in the country.

When will billing based on the meter start?
A flat rate of $264.00 is currently charged directly on residential taxes for water and sewer. Starting in 2007, a separate bill will be issued quarterly and the flat rate will be removed from the residential tax notice.

How much will the meter cost?
The City will pay for the meter, the installation, meter reading, and all other associated costs. If you use water wisely you have the opportunity to save money on your water bills.

Does everyone have to have a meter?
Yes, this is a mandatory program in which every home and business requires a water meter.

How do I arrange to have the meter installed?
You will receive an information booklet prior to the arrival of the meter installers arriving in your area. This booklet will tell you all you need to know about scheduling an installation appointment.

Where does the meter go?
The meter will be installed inside your house on your incoming water service. A transmitting unit will be mounted next to the meter. This unit will transmit your meter reading via an electronic signal to one of several data collection units located on public buildings throughout the city. It will not be necessary for a meter reader to enter your home in order to obtain a reading.
